Yamaha made its first initial step in India in 1985. Yamaha India became the 100% subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan (YMC) in August 2001. India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM) has two manufacturing plants at Faridabad (Haryana) and Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) which supports production of motorcycles and its spare parts for the domestic as well as overseas markets. The Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) plant was established in 1984 and holds the capacity to produce 1 million motorcycles and scooters annually. The quality standards of this plant meet global quality benchmarks for exporting goods. There are 3 vehicle assembly lines and 4 engine assembly lines. The Faridabad (Haryana) plant was established in 1965 and upgraded in 2008. This plant manufactures machinery parts such as Gears and shafts, Clutch Assembly, Body Cylinder, Crank, Crank Case and Head Cylinder.
