Wringley Field is a sports ground mainly and famously used for world level baseball matches. The stadium is located in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. It is the home ground of Chicago Cubs. Firstly it was built on 4th March 1914 named as Weeghman Park and opened on 23rd April 1914 for the Chicago Whales, the Chicago Federal League baseball team. The Chicago Cubs played their first match on 20th April 1916 at Weeghman Park. The match was turned into favor of Cubs defeating its opponent the Cincinnati Reds by 7-6 in eleven innings.
The founder and owner by the world famous chewing gum magnate, William Wrigley Junior acquired the Chicago Cubs completely by 1921. The William re-named it as Wrigley Field for the 1927 season. As per 2012 Chicago Cubs Media Guide the seating capacity of the field is 41,006 and 42,374 with standing room. This makes the 10th smallest active baseball ground and the 2nd oldest active major league baseball ground. Moreover, it is the only remaining Federal League Park.
The Wrigley Field is famously known for its outfield brick wall which covered by ivy plants, the Iconic red marquee over the main entrance, manual score board and most important it was the last major league stadium in which lights was installed in 1988. The surrounding areas of the baseball ground were collectively names as Wrigleyville because it was surrounded by bars, residential streets, restaurants and other points of interests.
The Charles Weeghman was one of the Founders of the baseball Federal League, hired Zachary Taylor Davis as architect for the stadium. A syndicate was formed by the Weeghman including William Wrigley Jr. to purchase the Chicago Cubs from Charles P. Taft for about $500,000. His quick action after acquisition was to move the Cubs to his old park. Later in 1918, Wrigley acquired the club and officially re-named the park to Wrigley Field in November 1926
