Wembley Arena is an indoor arena in Wembley, London, England and it is located near Wembley Stadium. Its original name is Empire Pool and known through its official sponsor The Sse Arena, Wembley. The Wembley Arena falls in the list of the world's most expensive stadium which has been built at a cost of 800 millions of British Pound. The arena is mostly used for various events like sports, family (circus), music, comedy and performance. It can hold the capacity of 12,500 spectators. This makes it London's second-largest indoor arena after The O2 Arena. The Wembley Arena was built in 1934 by Arthur Elvin for the British Empire Games. Initially the Arena was provided with a swimming pool which was named after his former name, Empire Pool. Later in 1984, the pool was used for Summer Olympics. The whole venue was renovated along with Wembley Stadium for 21st century which cost 35 million of UK Pounds. Finally after the refurbishment, the Arena was re-opened to public on 2nd April 2006 and inaugurated by the English electronic-music band Depeche Mode. The Arena operations are contracted under Aeg Facilities for 15 years, in September 2013. The Wembley Arena is re-named to SSE Arena on June 1, 2014 after SSE plc and bought the naming rights for the period of 10 years.
