State University of New York (SUNY) upstate Medical University is located in the university Hill district of Syracuse, New York. Upstate Medical University is a Graduate College with four academic degree courses which include Medicine, Nursing, Health professions and Graduate Studies. They have a fast expanding biomedical research division. The university offers various full time and part time undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral programs in various medical, paramedical and health sciences branches. They have a joint Ph.D. program with the Syracuse University in Biomedical Engineering. The college has a University Hospital in campus. Apart from the Binghamton Hospital which was established in 1979 they have 22 other hospitals as their attachments for the clinical teaching and training of their students. The University Hospital is a Level 1 trauma centre and level 4 epilesy centre in the state and is also the only children's hospital in the region. The Medical University Aims at improving the health of the communities through education, biomedical research and health care. It aims to be the leading regional academic centre in the nation. One of the important part of Upstate’s mission is their community outreach programs. Upstate is one of the largest employer of the region with 9,460 employees.
