Standard Chartered PLC was set up in the year 1969 with the efforts of John Peace and Peter Sands. The name of the bank was driven from the combination of banks: Chartered Bank and Standard Bank. It obtained the Grindlays Bank from the
Anz (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited) to expand its private banking services and operations in India and Pakistan. The bank also obtained the Korea First Bank in the year April 2005 to expand its business in Thailand and renamed name as SC First Bank. As of June 2014, it had the strength of approximately 88,686 employees.
