Salt River Project is the combined name of two separate governmental agencies named as the 'Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District' which is an electric utility responsible for the distribution of electricity to the residents of Phoenix metropolitan area and the 'Salt River Valley Water Users Association', a water utility responsible for supply of water in Arizona. It is commonly known with its acronym i.e. SRP. The company delivers electric Energy and water services to thousands of people living in the state of Arizona. The Salt River Project was established back in the year 1903 following the passage of National Reclamation Act of 1902. The company became the first multipurpose project started under the Reclamation act. After that a dam was constructed on the Salt River which was later used for both generation of electricity and supply of water for drinking and irrigation purposes to the nearby areas. The administration of the project consists of a 30-member council and a 10-member board. As of 2006 data, there were more than 4,400 people working under various departments belonging to the Salt River Project. The head office of the company is situated in Tempe, Arizona. SRP takes care of four reservoirs build along the Salt river which are used for supply of water to residents of Arizona state at times of water shortage.
