Regina Airport is an international public airport located in Regina, Saskatchewan Province, Canada. It is managed by Regina Airport Authority, a non profit organisation. Iata code of the airport is YQR.
The current site was developed in the year 1928-30, followed by a terminal building which was built in 1940. Prairie Airways provided scheduled airline services in the initial year 1938 and later was provided by Trans Canada Airlines in the year 1939. A new terminal building was constructed in 1960, and its main renovation took place in 1983-1986. A major expansion of the airport began in January 2004 and was completed in 2005, August month. This expansion increased the capacity of post security holding room, terminal, passengers' loading bridge, baggage conveyor belts, and international arrival area to accommodate increasing passenger traffic.
Airline service to Minneapolis-Saint Paul (USA) began on May 1 1995 under Canada-US Open Skies Agreement by Northwest Airlines. Then, United Express commenced non stop air service to Chicago O'Hare and Denver. Boeing 737-200 service was started by WestJet in the 1996. In October 2005, Air Canada ended its mainline flight services in seven medium sized cities of Canada, including Regina, which were handed over to its subsidiary Air Canada Jazz.
