Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, commonly known as Palmetto Citizens FCU, is a not-for-profit financial institution in the United States of America. It was the state's First Financial institution to receive a multi-county community charter. Unlike banks and financial companies, it is owned and operated by its members. The credit union is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union has a wide network of branches and ATM locations spread across Fairfield, Newberry, Lexington and Richland in South Carolina region. The credit union offers checking and saving accounts, loan services, investment and insurance services, small business services and more. It started business era in 1936. The original name of the credit union was the Columbia (SC) Teachers FCU and it was established to provide financial services to the Columbia Public Schools' employees. In 2001, Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union became a community based credit union, after the recognition from the NCUA. The credit union has been named as the Midlands' Best Credit Union for four years in a row, 2008 to 2011, by a daily newspaper, The State Newspaper.
