The corporation offers different types of public transportation services that are bus services, light rail and commuter rail services covering many regions of New York, Orange, Rockland and Philadelphia. It is known with number of other names which are New Jersey Transit, NJT. NJ Transit is the largest public transit system and ranks at the third position in terms of passengers carried through different public means of transport in the United States. The total length of the service area covered by the corporation was 5,325 square miles (13,790 km2) at the end December, 2013.
History
NJ Transit Corporation began their business journey on 17th July, 1979. The corporation is having many offices in different parts of the state with its main office located at 1 Penn Plaza East, Newark, New Jersey. NJ Transit operates nearly 11 Commuter Rail, 3 Light Rail and 247 bus routes and that had a daily ridership of 940,877 on weekdays, 392613 on Saturdays and 216375 on Sundays according to December, 2007.
