Nissan is an automobile brand name which is available with several models of passenger vehicles, sports utility vehicles (SUVs), sports cars and commercial vehicles. Nissan brand is officially called as Nissan Motor Corporation, is a Japan based worldwide automobile company. Nissan Motor Corporation is headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama. The history of Nissan Motor Corporation was originally started by Masujiro Hashimoto as the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works in 1911. After three years, the company came in market with its first car, the DAT. In 1918, its name was changed into Kwaishinsha Motorcar Co., Limited and also started production of trucks along with passenger cars. Later in 1925, the company name was changed into DAT Jidosha & Co., Ltd. (DAT Motorcar Co.). During the year 1926, the DAT Motors merged with the Osaka-based Jitsuyo Jidosha Co., Ltd and then it became DAT Jidosha Seizo Co., Ltd ( Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd).
The Nissan name as brand name was first used in 1930s. The brand name was officially introduced as company name, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd in 1934. The Nissan Company came into existence by the joint efforts of five partners, named Masujiro Hashimoto, Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, Meitaro Takeuchi and Yoshisuke Aikawa. In 1935, Nissan completed its Yokohama based plant and from there 44 Datsuns were shipped to Asia, Central and South America.
During the half 20th century, the company decided to operate its business in global markets. In the year 1960, the company established its subsidiary as Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. in the United States. During the year 1994, the company entered in Middle East and established its main office for Middle East region in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. Nissan has been operating as a part of the Renault–Nissan Alliance since 1999.
In the year 2001, the company opened its plant in Brazil and after four year started business as Nissan Motor India Private Limited in India. According to revenues of 2012, Nissan was operated as the world's sixth largest automobile manufacturer after Toyota, General Motors, Volkswagen Group, Hyundai Motor Group, and Ford. At present, Nissan Motor Corporation of Japan operates through over 7,000 dealers in more than 180 nations all over the world. It has principal production facilities in major nations like Japan, the United States, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, China etc.
