Kitchener Utilities is a gas agency that provides natural gas services in Canada. Founded by Dominion Buttons, Kitchen Utilities began its journey in the name of Berlin Gas Company in 1879. After gaining popularity by installing the first gas lightening system, the company constructed a coal plant to produce gas. Later it was acquired by a Berlin based electrical utility company called Breithaupts. On June 1, 1903, the Berlin Gas company was bought by the Town of Berlin. Berlin Light Commission began serving 79 electricity and 440 gas consumers. Later, the company extended its services by supplying power and natural gas to about 1,078 electricity and 2,000 gas users. The Berlin gas company in the year 1973 became a part of City of Kitchener and its name was changed to Kitchener Utilities.
