It consist of Three group entities including the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, The autonomous regional Permanente Medical Groups and the Kaiser Foundation Health plan. It has 9.3 million health plan members, 14,600 physicians, 167,300 employees, 611 medical offices and 37 medical centers. In 1955, this structure was acquired by physicians and leaders of Kaiser Permanente. There are two types of organizations Kaiser Foundation Health Plans(KFHP) and Permanente Medical Groups which makes each regional entity. Kaiser Foundation Health Plans(KFHP) provides prepaid health plans and insurance to employees, employers and individual members. These health plans are non-profit and offers a Tex-exempt shelter for the for-profit medical groups. Permanente Medical Groups are their owned organizations. These Organizations offers and arrange medical care for their health plan members. These groups are for-profit professional corporation. The Department of Managed Health Care oversees the managed care providers and insurers. The Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Doctors of Medicine are partners in for-profit groups. Many employees are members of various guilds and unions depending on their service area and role.
