Brief history of Jo-Ann:
Hilda and Berthold Reich (Germans) and their friends Sigmund and Mathilda Rohrbach in 1943 started a business of selling cheese in Cleveland in the year 1943. In subsequent years, they discarded selling cheese and sold fabric under the name Cleveland Fabric Shop, however, they renamed their venture in 1969 to
Jo-Ann Fabrics. Soon
Jo-Ann Fabrics grew by leaps and bounds and began running business across various malls in the US.
Jo-Ann Fabrics was also soon enrolled in American Stock Exchange with a brand name Fabri-Centers of America, Inc. In 1988, this business unit changed it's corporate name to
Jo-Ann Stores Inc. and the outlets were renamed to
Jo-Ann Fabrics. At present
Jo-Ann runs plus 700 stores as well as operates craft classes. Jo-Ann operates at 49 US states and the only left out state is Hawaii.
