Dell is the multinational IT company belonging to the manufacturing of computer hardware and software and related services. Based in Texas, USA, it is one of the largest IT companies in the world. It has the strength of over 108,800 employees and is the parent company of the Alienware Corporation, Force 10 Networks, Inc., SecureWorks Inc, SonicWALL Inc etc. Dell produces and develops PC, servers, software, accessories, consumer electronics etc. It also provides IT consulting services including BPO, cloud services, application designing, Security services etc. Dell dates back to 1984 when it was founded by Michael Dell as PC's Limited with the investment of $1000. PC's Limited was renamed to Dell Computer Corporation in 1987 and set its feet in the UK followed by other international operations. After the opening of its stocks to the public in 1988, it made an unsuccessful attempt to sell its products through retailers or warehouses. Its first laptop was launched in 1989. The 1990's saw the Dell's rapid growth in subsidiaries and products as well and company was ranked in the list of leading computer vendors of the world. For the first time, Dell was listed in Fortune 500. It carried its operations to the Asia Pacific by opening the subsidiaries in Australia and Japan in 1993. In the same year, it introduced the line of Dimension and OptiPlex while the PowerEdge servers was launched in 1994. Dell launched its website, Dell.com to sell its products through online in 1996 and the Next year marked the shipping of its tenth millionth PC. The company was dominant in the PC market from 1997 to 2004 and dubbed as the top PC manufacturers. In the early 2000s, it started producing TVS, music players, printers, and Mobile equipments. It was renamed as Dell Inc to Show its ventures beyond the computers in 2003. In 2004, Michael Dell promoted to the position of Chairman from CEO. Dell has acquired various companies such as Alienware, ACS, Everdream, Perot Systems, KACE Networks, Compellent etc. In 2009, the company landed in the Smartphones desigining business. Dell shares its rivalry with HP, Acer, Apple, IBM, Msi etc. The company has its headquarters in Round Rock, Texas while the factories are located in New Hampshire, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Illinois, Kentucky etc. Dell sells its products for home and business use under several brands such as Inspiron, XPS, Alienware, Venue, OptiPlex, Vostro etc. Its customer support is available through online, phone and service centers giving round the clock services throughout the year.
