The beginning of the Cambridge SoundWorks was started by an audio engineer and businessman, named Henry Kloss in 1987. Shortly, the company started selling of products by catalog and magazine advertisements. During 1991, the company expanded its operations with its first store in Newton, Massachusetts. After the success of it, the company has opened 30 showrooms in the United States. In 1994, Cambridge SoundWorks started selling of products online through the Compuserve network. During 1997, the company became subsidiary of Creative Labs.
