History

State Board of Equalization and the State Controller were enacted by the state constitution. The office of the Franchise Tax Commissioner was set up in 1929 through the state legislature. The modern form of the board was come into existence when the state dissolved Franchise Tax Commissioner and its power was transferred to the Franchise Tax Board in 1950. John J.
