Shell Oil Storage Company. Finally, on 24th of January 1976, Government of India took possession over the company to make it Bharat Refineries Limited that later came to be known as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. In the early years of foundation, the corporation's operations were limited to marketing and importing of kerosene that gradually expanded to other products like petroleum, natural gas and petrochemicals.
