On 7th of September 1906, Bank of India (BoI) commenced its banking operations with the efforts of a group of well-known businessmen from Mumbai and it was privately owned till July 1969. It setup its first branch in Mumbai with a paid-up capital of Rs.50 lakh and later became the nationalized bank. In the year 1989, it became the first nationalized bank that started online systems with ATM option at the Mahalaxmi office at Mumbai.
